Chop Suey |
Chop suey literally means "assorted pieces" and is
believed to have originated in America invented by the Chinese Americans.
Although the dish might still have stemmed from mainland china itself.
The dish consists of meat such as chicken, fish, beef prawn,
or pork and is cooked with vegetables like bean sprouts, cabbage, and celery
which is bound in a starch-thickened sauce.
Chop suey has become a
prominent part of Filipino cuisine as well as other cuisines in different
countries.
Ingredients
- Chicken pieces - 1/2 kilo
- Mix veggies (ready to stir fry vegetables)
- Garlic (shopped)- 3 cloves
- Onion (sliced) - 1 whole
- Fish Sauce - 2 tablespoon
- Cornstarch (as thickener) - 2 tablespoon
- Soy sauce - 1 tablespoon
- Water (if necessary)
Procedure
- In a cooking pot, sauté garlic and onion then add the chicken
- Add fish sauce while sautéing the ingredients.
- Mix until the chicken is tender and cooked
- Add water if it becomes dry
- Add the vegetables mixing only once.
- Simmer until the chicken is cooked and you reach your preferred amount of sauce.
- On a separate bowl, mix cornstarch with half glass of water. Stir until the cornstarch is dissolved.
- Add the cornstarch to the cooking pot and simmer a bit more.
* Best served with rice.
